Schizophrenia and A Beautiful Mind

Maladaptive

An example of maladaptive in the movie was when John would stop taking his medicine because he thinks he does not need it because he thinks hes better off with out it, and really he does.

Unjustifiable

An example of unjustifiable in the movie was when John would talk to people that do not exist. John could not prove to other people why he was seeing people.

Disturbing
An example of disturbing is when John would cut up newspapers and put them all over the room so that you could not see the walls.

Atypical

An example of atypical in the movie was when John told that girl at the bar that all he wanted was sexual intercoarse when they first met. That is going against the social norm.

Dreams & Latent Content

For the past year I have been having dreams about my family and I getting into serious car accidents. Another dream that has been reoccurring is that I have been dreaming about stalkers following me around and eventually coming to my house when I'm sleeping and then I get raped and killed. Another dream that I can think of is that I get lost in a dessert or island and I cant go home.

"Are you driving yourself too hard? Perhaps you should slow your life down a bit. If your life feels like it is set on a course for disaster, examine your mistakes and resolve to set a new and better course. If the accident happens to someone else in your dream then examine your heart for you may have suppressed hostility towards that person. Unexpressed jealousy resentment or hatred may be finding its release through your dream."

RESPONSE: I agree about the first when it says that you might driving your self to hard and that could be a problem that I should look into. Although i agree with the first part. I really don't agree with the second part about hating the person that's getting in the accident. Because I love my dad more than anything and when i wake up from the dream i feel terrible about him getting in an accident. I start to believe that might happen later in life.

"To dream that you are being stalked, indicates difficulties and problems which you are not confronting. Your avoidance of these problems is not making them go away. If you are being stalked in real life, then this fear may be carried over into your dream state. To dream that the doors are closed or locked, signify opportunities that are denied and not available to you or that you have missed out on. Something or someone is blocking your progress."

RESPONSE: I think this might be right because i have been trying to avoid all of the problems that i have been having. And i dont really agree on the last part about someone is blocking your progress.

"Stranded: Being stranded can mean you feel you're feeling stuck or lacking support somehow in your real life."

RESPONSE: I feel i dont have a lot support from my dad or brother with school or sports.

Classical Conditioning- Little Albert 3 questions!

1. I believe that the results of the experiment does not support the hypothesis because in the experiment they used an infant and tried to classically condition him to certain things. From watching the video I couldn't tell that the baby had changed. There hypothesis was most human behaviors and emotional reactions are built up on conditioned responses. When watching the video i did not see that he supported his hypothesis.

2. When Albert was exposed to a rabbit mouse and a dog he became afraid of them all with out of thinking because he become accustomed to thinking that white furry animals were scary.

3. The principles of classical conditioning used to reduce peters fear of rabbits were that they would strike a metal bar with a  hammer behind him. They would place furry animals in front of him and then hit the metal bar behind at the same time.

Lobotomist Reactions

Was Walter Freeman a "genius" or a "mad man" in his treatment of the mentally ill? Explain your thoughts on Freeman's lobotomies with specific case details and your impressions.

I believe that Walter Freeman was a genius and a mad man at the same time because you have to be really smart to think of something like that, but at the same he is kind of crazy of doing something like that to an actual brain. It may have treated the mental disorder but I'm pretty sure it was not right and it wouldn't of helped that disorder go away but it could made the patient think differently. I think its a very dangerous procedure and shouldn't of been done. So all in all, I believe that Wale Freeman was a mad man.

Bullying, Harassment, & the Need to Belong!

1. Yes, my eyes have opened up. I think about all the times that I have bullied some one or was a bystander. I should of known what I was doing to them. I have been bullied before and its a terrible feeling. I think it kind of made me feel like I was better than them but really it was hurting me and making feel like a terrible person. Overall, watching this video, listening to the officer, and listen to Mr. Verboomen has made me think about what I'm doing.

2. There is a line between unacceptable and acceptable. I would say that acceptable to bullying would be with your friends if you know for sure that your friends are okay with it. But on the other hand some unacceptable bullying is bullying someone that don't know your joking and your doing it to hurt their feelings.

3. I will definitely change how I act, I'm not saying that I'm a bully all the time. There has been times where I have stuck up for kids. But I need to change all the times that I have done wrong. This psychology class has been really life changing, and I have learned a LOT! Thank You :)

The Twilight Zone

Blog about your impressions of the Twilight Zone episode we watched. Were you surprised at the end? I was totally surprised at the end, i really thought that she would have a really different face. I really did expect her to be pretty, it was really interested.

Is beauty subjective? Does it change? Explain.
Beauty does change from clultures and time periods, there isnt a set beauty.

According to your standards of beauty, what is "beautiful" in 2010 in Kimberly, Wisconsin? (Is this realistic?)
Everyone is beautiful in their own way,but if i had to say long hair, tall and skinny.
